COVID-19 Community Update
May 5, 2020
At Kinnic Health and Rehab, we are committed to keeping our residents safe and you informed. As we have seen, the virus causing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (abbreviated COVID-19) can cause serious outbreaks in nursing homes. Many of our residents are elderly and may have medical conditions putting them at a very high risk of becoming sick, or even severely ill, with COVID-19. We know you might be concerned about the spread of this virus and how it may impact our community. Ensuring residents are cared for in a safe and healthy environment is our first priority. At this time, we do NOT have any confirmed cases in our center.
What is happening NOW
- We are limiting resident activities within the facility. Group activities remain suspended. In their place, residents are receiving personalized in-room visits and enjoying other socially distanced activities.
- Frequent environmental disinfection work, especially focused on sanitation of hard and often-touched surfaces. Our infection prevention team continues providing frequent education and guidance to all staff and residents.
- Visitation remains restricted since March 14th, 2020, except for specific situations, such as end of life. We are following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a necessary action to protect the health of our residents. Those who enter the building will be required to limit their visit to a designated area within the building, wear a facemask, and frequently clean their hands.
- We are monitoring health care personnel and residents for symptoms. Residents, employees, and critical health care staff continue to be screened daily for fever and other signs of illness. Our goal is to quickly identify ill residents and implement additional infection prevention activities. If ill residents are identified, they will be isolated in their rooms, monitored closely, asked to wear a mask and screened for COVID-19.
What you can expect through the foreseeable future
Our leadership and staff and the Health Department will continue to work diligently together to ensure that effective infection prevention measures are implemented and maintained. We will also ensure that our staff supplies are well-stocked with personal protective equipment (PPE). We also are staying up to date with the CDC recommendations as they continue to change.
Our team is here to ensure the best possible quality of life for those we serve. We know how important it is to remain connected with each other and to express love. Feel free to contact us, by phone or email, to schedule video chats or phone calls between loved ones.
Please call ahead for window visits
For those families who want to visit your loved one at their window, please call the facility ahead of time. With the warmer days upon us, we are allowing some residents to sit outside. While we are maintaining social distancing at all times, we need to take into consideration where the window visit might occur; we need to ensure the safety of all residents that reside here and ensure they are not exposed to the virus from community members.
